Martha Mildred (Glover) Taylor, 92, of Plainview, Texas, went to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in her home on Oct. 2, 2026.
She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1934 to James Elric and Rena Mae (Walker) Glover, the fourth of eight children. She met the love of her life, Junior Taylor, while they were pulling cotton in the fields of Cedar Hill Community, where they lived for fifty-six years after their marriage on December 16, 1949. She was the ultimate farmer’s wife, building fences, driving tractors and spray rigs, and even getting in the irrigation ditches, as well as keeping an immaculate house and making sure a hot meal was always on the table for lunch and supper.
Throughout the years Martha delighted numerous friends and family members with her delicious cooking. There was always a place at her table, whether it was family meals on Sundays or lunches for the men and whoever happened to “accidentally” drop by for a visit around noon. Her German chocolate cake and Texas Millionaire candy were among many favorites prepared in her kitchen.
Martha was a devoted Christian who cherished her Bible, having read through it numerous times, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. It was her habit for many years to read her Bible from 7:00 until 7:30 each night in addition to whatever Bible study she did during the day. She faithfully attended church, first at Cedar Hill Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday school and girl’s Missionette classes. In their later years, she and Junior attended Plainview First Assembly of God Church.
Martha was a member of the TOPS weight loss organization for almost thirty years, enjoying conventions and weekly meetings, and creating life-long friendships. She attended water workouts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the local YMCA for nearly twenty years, not missing except when the pool closed and continuing even past her ninety-first birthday. Her diligence, self-discipline and encouragement were an inspiration to everyone.
Her Christian values informed every aspect of her life and molded her into the beloved person she was. She treated everyone she met as she believed Jesus would—with acceptance and love.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junior Taylor; her sisters, Erma Sullivan, Dorcus Flores and Mary Coats; and her brothers, Amos Glover, Nahum Glover and Jez Glover.
She is survived by son Bud (Penny) Taylor of Plainview, Texas, daughter Shelia (Charlie) Joiner of Floydada, Texas, grandson Nick (Brandy) Joiner of Floydada, Texas, granddaughter Erin (Ticen) Harper of Haslett, Texas; great-grandchildren Damon, Holley, and Elektra Monroe and Travis Harper; and great-great granddaughter Makayla Sanchez.
A funeral service was held at Plainview First Assembly Church in Plainview, Texas at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026.
Visitation with the family was held in the Fellowship Hall before the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Interment followed the service at Lockney Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the care of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.
