PAMPA—Kerry Dwaine McDowell, 66, of Pampa graduated from this life on Monday, October 11, 2021 in Pampa, Texas.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021 at Hamlin Memorial Cemetery in Hamlin, Texas. Rev. Dennis Williams officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Visitation was held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Carmichael Whatley Funeral Home.

Kerry was born June 3, 1955 in Hamlin, Texas, to Ina and Charles McDowell.

Kerry was a Boy Scout leader for his sons and taught them to fish and water ski. He was known as the “fun uncle” to his nieces and nephews in that he was always busy, whether running his boat or teaching them to ski. He was never still and couldn’t tolerate anybody who was. Kerry could fix anything. He loved his Ford pickup, fast motorcycles, and his boat.

That was the first act. In act two, Kerry survived a tragic fall at work on August 8, 1988, that left him with head trauma and partially paralyzed. He survived the fall but was left in a coma for 10 months. After waking from the coma, he was in intense physical therapy for over a year. His mom and dad, Ina and Charles, refused to let him die; they gave up their golden years to care for him so he would live to see his children grown and have grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was so very proud of them.

He was a survivor! He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior when he was 11 years old. He is finally free of his broken body and is with his dad and sister. Rest in Peace, Kerry! You earned it.

Kerry was preceded in death by his father, Charles McDowell; and his little sister, Kellie Potter.

He is survived by his mother, Ina McDowell of Pampa; two brothers, Rick and wife, Elaine of Miami and Andy and wife, Brenda, of Plainview; two sons, whom he very much loved, Chas Kerry McDowell of Greenwood, Arkansas, and Jeremy Joe McDowell and wife, Bridgett, of Mansfield, Arkansas; his four grandchildren, Levi McDowell, Freedom Overly and husband, Luke, Shyann McDowell, and Sayde McDowell; his two great-granddaughters, Summer McDowell and Amyra Overly; and his six loving nieces and a nephew, Camille, Zach, Reagan, Chrystal, Kendra, Kelsey, and Kazdy.
