LUBBOCK—Theodore “Ted” Francis Carthel of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at the Lockney Cemetery in Lockney, Texas. Silas Lowe officiated. Visitation was held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Idalou, Texas. Ted was born on May 4, 1935 in Swisher County to Theodore Hershel Carthel and Claudia Octavia Collins Carthel.
Ted attended Lockney High School and graduated in 1953. He then attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1958. He worked at John Deere in Moline, Illinois, worked with Aflac Insurance, and worked in real estate investment after he retired from Aflac.
Ted was a member of the building permit committee and Meals on Wheels Board in Buffalo Springs Lake. He was also a member of Phi Delta Theta and Saddle Tramps at Texas Tech.
Ted attended the Church of Christ and was baptized in April of 1946. He met and married Sherry Bynum Hale in Lubbock, Texas on August 13, 2020.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Hershel Carthel and Claudia Octavia Collins Carthel; his wife Brenda Carthel; a son, Theodore Chester (Ches) Carthel; and a step-daughter, Mary Morton.
Those left to cherish Ted’s wonderful memory are his wife Sherry Carthel of Rotan, Texas; a daughter, Catherine Adams; a daughter-in-law, Laquita Carthel; a stepson, Silas Lowe and wife Paula; stepdaughters Valerie Gilbert and husband Walt, DLinda Benham and husband Greg, Joy Sims and husband Jody, and Patricia Parrish and husband Tim; a stepson-in-law, Scott Morton, his grandchildren, Maryam Abdul Jabar and husband Mustafa, Kelsey Zickefoose and husband David, Matthew Carthel, Meagan Matthiessen and husband Jake, Tiffany and Tommy Mainord, Jadon Sessums and Allie Sessums; 18 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister, Barbara Mathis of Lockney, Texas.
