Body Admittedly being someone who cries easily, Olympic gold medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock wasn’t ready for what she walked into when she stopped by Plainview’s City Hall on Monday morning. “I just stopped in to say hi,” she said, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Body Floyd County basketball was on fire this past week. Lockney hosted the Lady Rabbits and Jackrabbits from Ralls, and both Lockney squads finished the night with a win. Josh Barretero, Austin Rodriguez, Jonathan Cienfuegos and Adriana Villarreal all had a double-digit scoring game.

Body Nathanael Garza, a senior at Floydada Collegiate High School, is the son of Lionel Garza, Sr., and Laura Garza. He has been a part of the Floydada FFA for three years.
CANS COLLECTED Last Friday night, Jan. 28, canned goods were collected at the basketball game between Floydada and Lockney. Mia Snowden was able to collect $138 in items from Floydada fans and $124 in items from Lockney fans. Each team scored two touchdowns and Floydada scored an extra touchdown for donating the most last Friday night. Thanks go to all who donated. Souper Bowl of Caring fights hunger in Floyd Co.

Body The Floyd County Souper Bowl Challenge was kicked off by Mia Snowden on Saturday, January 15. Snowden is a 4-H Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador serving Floyd County and the state, promoting healthy lifestyles and choices.

South Plains College to offer oilfield safey courses

Body South Plains College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education will offer several workforce courses starting this month. In February, Workforce Development is bringing back two oilfield safety classes required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
