of Floydada went home to be with the Lord on Friday May 2, 2025, with his family surrounding him. Jerry was born October 3, 1938 in Amarillo, Texas, to M. T. Cannon and Leao (Rogers) Cannon. Services were held May 12, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Floydada.
Jerry graduated from Palo Duro High School and was inducted in to the Palo Duro Hall of Fame in 1984. He received his undergraduate degree from West Texas State University, his master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma University, and superintendent certification from Texas Tech University. Jerry’s professional career began in coaching and teaching in Lockney, Texas; Artesia, New Mexico; and Claude, Amarillo and Hereford, Texas. Later in his life he became a school administrator serving as special education director and retired as superintendent for Floydada ISD for 19 years.
Jerry made many friends throughout his life, as he loved people. His favorite memories were of his former students and players. Jerry was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Floydada, until failing health made it necessary for him to move to Raider Ranch of Lubbock.
Foremost in his life were his Lord and his family. His favorite times were spent watching his grand and great grandchildren’s activities and being on the farm.
Jerry is survived by his wife and high-school sweetheart, Sheree Bonjour. They celebrated 66 years together. Other survivors include his daughters Sherese (Marty) Covington of Floydada and Paige (Wayne) Parkman of Keller, Texas; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Colton (Kallie) and Cash Covington of Floydada; Lexi (Tyler) Grey, and Miller Tallman of Edmond, Oklahoma; Pressley Parkman of Dallas; Haley (Rhett) and Lawson Mims of Acuff, Texas; Heath (Ashleigh) and Carter Parkman of Haslet, Texas; Hagan (Jared) and Tyler of Nashville, Tennessee.
