James A. Mulder, 54, of Forestburg, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, February 8, 2024 surrounded by his family.

James, fondly known as Jimmy to his Texas family, was born on February 16, 1969 and was adopted into the loving family of Nathan and Kathryn Mulder on October 9, 1972. James grew up on the family farm near South Plains, Texas. He attended South Plains Elementary through the sixth grade and then Floydada Junior High and High School through 1987. He was a member of the high school tennis team and was a talented player.

After high school, he became a Hawk Missile Crewman in the U.S. Army, putting out fires all over the world, in places such as Greece, South Korea, and Yellowstone National Park. He then settled in Seattle, Washington, where he started his family and career in the car dealership industry.

James later moved to San Jose, California, and continued working as a sales manager and then internet director of new automobiles. He loved what he did and was corporate ranked as the #1 Chrysler/ Jeep/Dodge consultant in the Bay Area and the NorCal District for 2010 and 2011 and Top Ten in the Western States. He always tried to work harder and smarter than anyone else to meet his customers’ needs. After moving to Texas, he began managing Lonestar 23 RV and Storage in Weatherford, Texas.

James married Karen Weiss on December 8, 2018 at the Presidio in San Fransisco, California. He then dreamed of moving back to Texas with his beautiful bride. He and Karen designed the home they planned to build somewhere in Texas. Thus began the search for the perfect property, which was found in Forestburg. James commuted between California and Texas to keep a watchful eye on the progress of the home-build and moved to Texas fulltime after its completion in June 2023. Though Karen continued to commute between her job at the Hoover Institute and their home in Texas, she became an official Texas resident in the fall of 2023.

James and Karen made a beautiful home for themselves and enjoyed sharing it with all their family and friends. James loved playing host and would do his best to make everyone feel comfortable. He especially looked forward to visits from his children and had plans for future grandchildren. He hosted a men’s Bible study for Forestburg Baptist Church, where the couple were members. They first attended the Sunday after finding their property and were welcomed with open arms. Finding the property and a church family on the same weekend was a godsend.

Aside from his love of the Giants and 49ers, James was passionate about sharing his life, whether it be through a camera lens as an avid photographer or talking with strangers who crossed his path. His children will remember him for his goofiness, headstrong nature, love of pecans, and many other indelible characteristics. James positively impacted his community, and he will be missed.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, who died at the time of the tragic car accident one week before he succumbed to his own injuries, and by his father, Nathan Mulder.

Those left to cherish James’s memory are his beloved children, Saida, Shayda, Shealtiel and Samuel Mulder and their mother, Cynthia Pilgrim; his stepson, Zack Weiss; his mother, Kathryn Mulder; his sisters, Cindy Hilliard and husband, Trent, and Penny Poole and husband, Ricky; his brother, Cory Mulder and wife, Lisa; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends from around the Bay Area and Texas; and his German Shepard, Eva, who was his faithful companion.

James and Karen will be in our hearts until we see them again in Heaven! “When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’” A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Forestburg Baptist Church in Forestburg, Texas.
