Filings for city councils, school boards begin Jan. 14

Body Candidates seeking to have their name placed on the ballot in a local election for either a city council or school board must file a candidate application, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office.

Body STAFF REPORTSDorcas Baker, age 61, passed away on Dec. 18, 2025. Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026 at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Floydada, according to an obituary notice posted on the website of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.

Longhorns at the Gruver Tournament, Lady Horns set to begin district play

Body The Lockney Longhorns basketball squad participated in the Gruver Tournament last week. The Longhorns entered the tournament wanting to build momentum towards the district portion of their schedule. Lockney defeated Wheeler 68-48 after falling to Spearman 76-31.
