Sallye Jayne Harris Lyles, 78, of Floydada, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by those she loved most on Wednesday, August 21, 2004.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Floydada United Methodist Church.

Burial was held prior to the service at 10 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2024 at Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada.

Visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada.

Arrangements were under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Sallye was born on October 24, 1945 in Ballinger, Texas. She was the cherished daughter of Edna Hardy Harris and Jeff Harris, who instilled in her the values of hard work, integrity and love for others. These values guided Sallye throughout her life, particularly in her dedication to education.

Sallye married the love of her life, Thomas Carl Lyles, on July 29, 1972 in Ballinger, Texas. Their marriage was a testament to love and devotion, spanning 52 years.

Together, they are the proud parents of Jeffrey Thomas Lyles. Sallye was fiercely devoted to her family, attending Jeffrey’s games with fervor and always being his biggest supporter. Her love for Jeff and Tommy was unmatched, and her family meant everything to her.

Understanding the importance of education, Sallye became a first-generation college graduate, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Texas Tech University in 1968. This achievement was a testament to her commitment to learning and her desire to influence others positively.

Sallye’s passion for education naturally led her to a dedicated career as an educator. Sallye had high expectations for her students, believing in their potential and pushing them to achieve their best. Her structured and disciplined approach to teaching was matched by her genuine concern for her students’ growth, leaving a positive impact on many.

Sallye was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Floydada, where she found great purpose in serving her faith community. Her kindness, generosity and unwavering commitment to doing what was right earned her the respect and admiration of those who knew her.

Family gatherings were a source of great joy for Sallye. She cherished the time spent with her loved ones, whether it was around the table for a game of 42 or sharing in meaningful conversations. Sallye was protective of those she cared about and was always someone you could count on to be direct and honest.

Sallye’s love for her family was deep, particularly for her brother, Jimmy, and her sister, Mary, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Her family and friends all felt the strength of her love and support.

Sallye was also blessed with a dear friend, Sue Reeves, whose companionship brought her much comfort and joy.

Sallye was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Jeff Harris; her sister, Mary, and Mary’s husband, Larry.

Left to cherish Sallye’s memory are her devoted husband, Thomas Carl Lyles of Floydada; her beloved son, Jeffrey Thomas Lyles of Amarillo; her brother, Jimmy Harris, of Winters; her sister-in-law, Lori Lyles Ross (husband Tom Ross); her niece, Tana Lloyd; her nephew, Jeremy Lloyd (husband Eric Pettus); her brother-in-law, Gary Dale Lyles; and many dear friends. Each of these individuals carries a piece of Sallye in their hearts, her love and influence living on through them.
