Lockney enacts policy to establish utility services

Body The City of Lockney recently enacted a new policy regarding opening new utility service accounts. Effective May 1, 2026, residents requesting utility services at a new address must provide a copy of their rental lease agreement.

Whirlwinds and Lady Winds to compete in 2A Region 1 track meet

Body The Floydada Whirlwinds and Lady Winds track and field teams are scheduled to compete in the 2A Region 1 track meet at West Texas A&M on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2.

STATE FINALIST

Body STATE FINALIST Congratulations go to Floydada Collegiate High School senior Brittney Machado for becoming a state finalist in the UIL Barbra Jordan Historical Essay contest. She will read and compete for a top 10 spot in the UIL State contest in Austin on May 18, 2026.

STATE ALTERNATE

Body Congratulations go to Floydada’s Tiffiny Perez, who finished in 4th place in news writing at the UIL regional academic meet at West Texas A&M in Canyon last week. She will be an alternate for the State meet.

Body Floydada Collegiate High School junior Noah Fierros submitted a photograph to Rep. Jodey Arrington’s office for their annual Congressional Art Competition. His photo was selected as the winner and will be put on display in the U.S. Capitol. He will travel to Washington, D.C.

Body The Serrato Sisters of Floydada are hard at work putting together their annual Cinco de Mayo celebration for Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m.The free event, which offers both new and returning vendors and entertainment, will take place at 214 S. Main Street.
