Professional-looking jerseys emblazoned with the names of star ballplayers are everywhere. Even the players wear them. More often you’ll see them on regular people. Sometimes the jersey-wearer actually looks like a real athlete— just not most of the time. The extreme mismatches amuse me.

It takes a village

Kay Ellington is publisher of The Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon and its sister papers, The Texas Spur and The Caprock Courier. In our little newspaper office on Burlington Avenue in downtown Spur, it takes a village to publish three weekly newspapers serving eight counties and ten school systems.

Drier, warmer weather in November

By now your family is a third of the way through your Advent calendar. Little card-stock doors or windows are opened to reveal various tokens: chocolates, Christmas images, or maybe biblical verses that tell the story of the birth of Jesus.

State lowers price cap for power providers

AUSTIN—The state’s Public Utility Commission last week lowered the maximum allowable wholesale price for electricity by almost half, from $9,000 per megawatt hour to $5,000.

Breakfast casseroles are in the spotlight during the holidays. Even if we are not expecting a large group of family or friends, it is still a nice idea to have one planned for Christmas morning. Or to have anytime during the holidays.

Lockney Senior Center News

The Center will be closed to the public on Wednesday, Nov. 24, Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26 for the Thanksgiving holidays. HOMEBOUND CLIENTS will still receive their delivered meals on these days. There will be NO GAME NIGHT on Thursday, Nov. 25.
