Body A reporter’s notebook is a scary thing. Flip one open in the face of a potential interviewee, and they suddenly forget how to speak. At least some are intimidated. I’d say most.

Saying good-byes to grads, teachers

Body I don’t know how teachers do it. Every year they say good-bye to students they have known and nurtured, sometimes for years and years. It’s got to be tough. Having owned a newspaper since 2018, our team has seen freshmen throughout their high school careers.

Wildfires continue across state

Body AUSTIN—Firefighters are looking to the skies for muchneeded rain this week as crews continue battling wildfires across the state. Fires reported Sunday by the Texas A&M Forest Service were being fought in Brown, Taylor, Wilbarger, Llano, Schleicher and San Saba counties.

Gophers dig archaeology

Body Just what you’ve been waiting for: A glimpse into the secret lives of gophers. Are they creating mounds in your lawn? Do they tunnel close enough to the surface to reveal the routes of their corridors? Either way, they live in the past. A gopher just gave me evidence.

Early runoff voting ends Friday
