Lady Winds fall to Sundown 43–39

Body Floydada basketball tipped off a new season last week. The Lady Whirlwinds dropped a tough loss to Sundown 43 to 39. Sundown jumped out to a 10–8 lead in the first quarter and then extended that lead 20–13 at halftime.

Lockney schools post 1st 6 weeks honor rolls

Lady Horns open hoops season with win over Dimmitt Bobbies, 65-38

Body The Lockney Lady Horns initiated their 2021–22 basketball campaign with a decisive win hosting the Dimmitt Bobbies Saturday, Nov. 6. Coach Trey Bale led an enthusiastic team into a 65–38 victory.

Sanchez, Gonzales advance to TAFE State competition

Body Floydada CHS students Kailee Sanchez and Ava Gonzales competed at the Area TAFE conference (Texas Association of Future Educators) held at Texas Tech University on Saturday, Nov. 6. Kailee competed in the Children’s literature Pre-K competition.

Body Kimberlee Ramirez, a senior at Floydada Collegiate High School, is the daughter of Lucia Ramirez. Kimberlee has been a part of the Whirlwind bands for five years. “The things I like most about FCHS Band is how hard we work,” commented Ramirez.

Body The Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon’s annual football contest has come to a close at the end of the regular high school football season. The contest has been a popular feature in the newspaper for many years.

Floyd County presents redistricting plan

Body Floyd County contracted with the Allison & Bass firm last year as the 2020 U.S. Census was being conducted, in preparation for redistricting, which can affect divisions not only in Congress and the state legislature but all the way down to the precinct level.
