Sheryl Dianne Rigby, age 77, passed away on December 31, 2025, in Lockney, Texas.
Sheryl was born March 25, 1948, in Swisher County, Texas, to Larnce McCain and Clara Ziegler. She was raised in Tulia, Texas, and later moved to Lockney, Texas, during her freshman year of high school, where she met Delvin Bybee. They married shortly after, on March 26, 1964, after she turned sixteen, and they shared many years together, raising a family.
Later in life, Sheryl found love again and married her second husband, Rodney Rigby, with whom she shared deep companionship and devotion.
At the age of 40, Sheryl made the courageous decision to return to college to pursue her calling in nursing. She became a registered nurse and spent the next 27 years healing, praying for and serving those she was privileged to care for. Nursing was not just her profession— it was her ministry.
Sheryl was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith, compassion and servant’s heart were evident in every area of her life. She loved her church and her community deeply and was always eager to serve on God’s behalf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Larnce McCain and Clara Ziegler; her two beloved husbands, Delvin Bybee and Rodney Rigby; her younger brother, Tim Mc-Cain; and her oldest daughter, Stephanie Sultan.
Sheryl is survived by her brother Larry McCain and wife, Debbie McCain, of Marshall, Texas, sistersin- law Debbie Stennett and Rhonda McCain, son-in-law Fred Sultan of Lubbock, Texas, and two children, Shandra Kidd and husband, Tracy, of Lockney, Texas, and Jason Bybee and wife, Melissa Bybee, of Lubbock, Texas.
She adored her grandchildren: Camille and Nate Melvin, Tobias and Bailey Sultan, Landry and Rebecca Kidd, and Hannah and Remington Ricketts. She was blessed with two great-grandsons, Nash Melvin and Shephard Kidd, and joyfully anticipated the arrival of another greatgrandson in May 2026, Thaddeus Ricketts.
Sheryl also treasured her “furry bulldog grandson,” Augustus McRae Bybee, a.k.a. “Gus,” who brought her much joy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lockney, Texas, with her grandson Landry Kidd officiating.
The family requests that memorials be made to Peggy’s Pantry at First Baptist Church in Lockney, Texas. Sheryl helped start this ministry several years ago to provide food and comfort to the homebound and the sick—an enduring reflection of her heart for service.
Sheryl’s legacy of faith, love, and compassion will live on through her family and all those whose lives she touched.
