    The year in Floyd County began with a leadership transition in Lockney, with Lockney ISD superintendent Jim Baum announcing his retirement. Baum came to Lockney in 2017 to begin his first term as a superintendent. In November 2024, he informed the school board of his intent to retire from education effective June 2025.
