Special session to begin on Oct. 9

Body AUSTIN— Gov. Greg Abbott issued a letter to legislative leaders indicating a special session will begin on Oct. 9 dealing with what he has called “school choice” but is more widely known as vouchers.

In the beginning…

Body As with many of you, Sunday school and Wednesday night children’s Bible classes always included the creation story. The figures placed on a felt board, the cutouts, and the coloring pages were mainstays of those 45-minute gatherings.

Yodeling for beginners

Body E-yo-duh-lay-ee-hoo! Is there a yodeler locked inside you just waiting to belt out those nonsensical syllables? Could be. I suspect everyone has an inner yodeler — an alter voice, as it were, sort of like an alter ego.

Hearty cabbage and potato soup for autumn

Body The thought of cabbage soup just doesn’t sound exciting to me. It makes me think of the old-school recipe that was used to aid in weight loss. We would pass the recipe around via email or photocopy long before the days of social media or recipe websites.

Another special session slated for October

Body has called a third special session, this time about school choice, for next month. He is promising retribution for lawmakers who oppose his move to enact school vouchers in Texas, the Texas Tribune reported.
