Early voting under way in Texas through Feb. 25

Voters began showing up at polling places on Valentine’s Day to cast ballots in partisan primary elections—and some were caught by surprise, by the number of races at every level through statewide and, on the Republican side, 10 nonbinding questions regarding policy matters.

About a half an hour before sunrise Sunday, the City of Spur posted on its Facebook page that a main water valve on West Harris Street was leaking, and that the city’s water had to be shut down. Whether winter storm Landon was a factor in the leak is yet to be known.

The first official Groundhog Day celebration took place on February 2, 1887, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. It was the brainchild of local newspaper editor Clymer Freas, who sold a group of businessmen and groundhog hunters—known collectively as the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club—on the idea.
