Sue Evelyn Moore, age 99, of Canyon, Texas (formerly of Floydada, Texas) died peacefully on January 24, 2025.
Sue was born on June 19, 1925, in Groom, Texas, to her parents, Mark B. and Ollye Jordan, as their only daughter with four brothers.
She married Vernie Doyle Moore, Sr., in December of 1940 in Crosbyton, Texas. Together they had three beautiful children and raised them on their farm in Floydada. Her family was always her greatest joy.
Sue was very active, loved and known by everyone in her small town. She owned and operated Sue’s Gifts in Floydada for 28 years, where brides went to register selections and others shopped for home goods. She opened a second location in Lubbock, Texas, from 1984 until 1987. She was creative, crafty and extremely hard-working.
If you were fortunate to know Sue, you knew she was a dedicated sports fan up until the day she passed. She was a loyal Dallas Cowboys supporter even when it was hard for everyone else to watch “America’s Team.” She scheduled all her activities and housekeeping duties around Texas Tech University football and anyone playing golf on TV. Sue also had a love for playing golf and was able to play well in her 70s, no matter the weather.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Vernie Doyle Moore, Sr.; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Moore; and two sons, Vernie Doyle Moore, Jr., and Randall Ray Moore.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Timmons Moore of Sudan, Texas; six grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Shayla Ally of Frisco, Texas, Brandon and Lindsey Wing of Canyon, Texas, Kurt and Eden Gunzinger of Palm Coast, Fla., Charlie and Leigh Fisher of Sudan, Texas, Monty and Brandi Edwards of Sudan, Texas, and Burr and Angela Barton of Gruver, Texas; 13 great grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.
A memorial service and celebration of Sue’s life will take place on at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the First Baptist Church Original Chapel, 1200 Tyler Street in Amarillo, Texas.
