AMARILLO—Robert Steven Pritchett of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Moore-Rose
Funeral Home in Floydada. Visitation was held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Moore-Rose Funeral Home.
Arrangements were under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Steve was born March 4, 1957, in Floydada, Texas, to Early and Nell Pritchett.
He was a member of South Plains Baptist Church and attended South Plains Elementary School through the seventh grade, then graduated from Floydada High School in 1975. Subsequently, he attended West Texas A&M University, graduating in 1979 with a B.S. degree in mass communication and business administration. He later completed numerous graduate courses in economic development, including studies at Texas A&M and University of Oklahoma.
After working as a disc jockey at the West Texas A&M radio station during his college days, Steve spent his early career with KVII-TV in Amarillo. Beginning as a reporter, producer and anchor, Steve eventually became news director over the station which ranked #1 in local news audience ratings during the six years he held that position. In 1994 he joined the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation where he retired as vicepresident after 22 years.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Louise and her husband Shorty Turner, and his brother Jim Pritchett. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife Connie Elaine (Welch) Pritchett, his brother Price Pritchett and wife Patty of Dallas, plus a whole bunch of great nieces and nephews he loved being with.
Steve’s quick sense of humor stuck with him throughout his life. His favorite pastimes were reading, fly fishing, travel, and hanging out with Connie at their place in Santa Fe or being with Sadie his beloved golden retriever.
