Reverend Wi l l a rd Vance Mitchell, 81, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Reverend Mitchell was born April 24, 1943 in Texas City, Texas, to Willard and Minnie (Hamilton) Mitchell.
Reverend Mitchell’s family moved to Crosbyton when he was a young child. He attended the Crosbyton schools.
On June 4, 1963, he married the love of his life, Hazel Bernice Barnard. They were married 58 years.
Reverend Mitchell’s ministry spanned over 50 years, 48 of those as an ordained Assemblies of God minister. His pastoral ministry took him to Idalou, Texas, Ralls, Texas, Cedar Hill Community, Texas, Cache, Oklahoma, Charles City, Iowa, Walters, Oklahoma, Floydada, Texas, and Crosbyton, Texas. Reverend Mitchell also served as a Presbyter for the East Plains Section of the West Texas District of the Assemblies of God Reverend Mitchell is survived by his daughters, Sandra Hutcheson and husband, Rodney, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Virginia Smith and husband, William, of Edmond, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Abigail, Audra and Evan Smith, all of Edmond, Oklahoma, Katlyn Sifford, also of Edmond, Oklahoma, Rosalyn Fraysur and husband, Jerek, of Foster, Oklahoma, and Karsten Hutcheson and wife, Faith, of Edmond, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Annie, Owen, Ava, Amelia and Ivy Fraysur of Foster, Oklahoma; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Bernice (Barnard) Mitchell; parents, Willard and Minnie (Hamilton) Mitchell; two brothers, Weldon Mitchell and Gary Mitchell; and two sisters, Laverne Mitchell and Mary Bowen.
The family suggests memorials be made to First Assembly of God in Crosbyton, Texas, Ignite Church in Norman, Oklahoma, or Open Door Assembly of God in Luther, Okaloma.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024 at First Assembly of God, 112 N. Durham, Crosbyton, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Real Life Church in Floydada, Texas with Reverend Rodney Hutcheson and Reverend William Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Crosbyton Cemetery.
