GARLAND—Margarito R. Arellano, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Colonial Oaks Senior Living at Campbell Park, Garland, Texas.
A viewing and rosary was held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Ted Dickey Plano East Funeral Home.
Margarito was born on April 28, 1936, to Telesforo and Escolastica Arellano in Alice, Texas.
Margarito married Maria Elena Bueno on September 4, 1954, in Alice.
Margarito lived his adult life in Lockney, Texas, and was a devout Catholic. He served as a lay eucharistic minister and acolyte at San Jose de Calasanz Church. He was a charter member of his parish’s Sacred Heart men’s organization, a secular Franciscan member, and a dedicated Cursillista in the Diocese of Lubbock Cursillo movement. He was also godfather (padrino) to numerous godchildren (ahijados/ahijadas). Margarito will be remembered as a kind, loving, Christian man, and will be dearly missed by the many people he touched.
Margarito is preceded in death by his parents, Telesforo and Escolastica Arellano, and his siblings, Martina Gomez, Lazara Rodriguez, Telesforo Arellano Jr. and Felix Arellano.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maria Elena Arellano; and five children, Margarito Arellano, Jr., Linda Flores and husband, Nick, Norma Warwick, Miguel Arellano and wife, Kim, and Mario Arellano and wife, Melissa. He treasured his 12 grandchildren, LeiLani De Santiago (John), Diana De Santiago (Juan), Nicole Flores (Adam), Nicolas Flores (Megan), Nathan Flores (Jennifer), Amanda Warwick (Chris), Chris Warwick (Janae), Jereme Arellano (Esme), Jonathan Arellano, Amanda Austin (Thaddeus), Mario Arellano, Jr. (Cassidy) and Jennifer Fletcher (David). He equally cherished his 10 beautiful greatgrandchildren, Drake Segarra, Wesley Segarra, Reese Jackson, Emilia Flores, Madison Warwick, Hunter Warwick, Theodore Austin, Peyton Fletcher, Sebastian Fletcher and Molly Fletcher.
He is also survived by his sisters Paula Elizardo, Maria Silva, Escolastica Silva and Rosalinda Castañeda; his brother Desidoro (Lolo) Arellano; and his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In a world that believes fame, material possessions and money define a person’s legacy, Margarito clearly demonstrated that a true legacy is evident by the number of lives that he impacted with his kindness, unconditional love and, above all, his Christian faith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Margarito may be made to San Jose de Calasanz Catholic Church, P.O. Box 505 Lockney, Texas 79241.
