It is with heavy hearts

that we announce the passing of Jesse L. Martinez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and respected veteran who left us peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the age of 80.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2024 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada.

A family viewing will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2024, with a Rosary starting at 7 p.m. at Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Floydada. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Born on August 27, 1944 in Frederick, Oklahoma, Jesse served his country honorably in the U.S. Army between 1966 and 1968, during which he proudly served in the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and dedication to his nation. Jesse would continue to serve in the U.S. National Guard for 15 years. After his military service, Jesse embarked on a successful career as a welder for Burlington Northern and Sante Fe Railroad Company for 20 years while residing with his family in Floydada, Texas. Jesse was a dedicated family man whose love and commitment touched the lives of everyone around him. He married the love of his life, Benita, in 1965, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love and countless cherished memories. Jesse was a pillar of strength for his family, always providing guidance and support, and his unwavering belief in their dreams inspired those he loved.

As a father, Jesse was nurturing and loved unconditionally. He instilled values of kindness, perseverance, and integrity in his children, Kathy, Carol, Jennifer and Andy, who carry forward his legacy of compassion and strength.

His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy; he adored his grandchildren, Abel Cortinas, Eric Perez, Kylub Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Raelene Martinez, Andrew Martinez, John Cortinas, Alyson Perez, Jessica Perales, Andrea Cortinas and Jane Perales, and delighted in sharing stories, adventures and laughter with them.

To those who knew him well, Jesse will be remembered as a pillar of strength within his family and as someone who loved challenges and games of luck, especially when it came to fishing and high-stakes betting. His laughter, smile, and sense of humor will be forever missed, and his memory and image will always be cherished by those who loved him most.

He is preceded in death by parents, Andrew and Francis Martinez, his brother, Clyde Martinez and Nathanael Martinez.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife, Benita Martinez; his loving children, Kathy Martinez, Carol Perez, Jennifer Martinez and Andy Martinez; his sister, Mary Saucedo; his brother, Joe Martinez; his 11 grandchildren, Abel Cortinas, Eric Perez, Kylub Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Raelene Martinez, Andrew Martinez, John Cortinas, Alyson Perez, Jessica Perales, Andrea Cortinas and Jane Perales; and five great-grandchildren, Lilliana Martinez, Ariel Perez, Ermias Diggs, Zenith Diggs and Joseph Martinez, Jr.

Jesse will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his love, kindness, and unwavering dedicated spirit to his family.
