Mac Smitherman, age 94, of Floydada, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Lockney. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Floyd County Memorial Park, with Pastor Rance Young officiating.

Arrangements were under the personal care of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Bryan “Mac” McKenzie Smitherman was born on January 5, 1931, in Plainview, Texas, to Gertude (McKenzie) and John Bryan Smitherman.

He attended school in Floydada, graduating from Floydada High School in 1948.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. As soon as Mac returned, he married his sweetheart, Charlene Perry, on July 12, 1956, in the parlor of the Methodist Church in Clovis, New Mexico.

Mac returned to work the family farm in Floydada with his wife by his side. Charlene and Mac were blessed with one son, Greg.

Mac was known to his friends as “Rover.” He loved going to the lake and fishing with his friends and later in life he became an avid reader. Mac also had one of the largest collections of barbed wire, a collection that was featured in the Lubbock newspaper in the 1960s.

He was a member of the Methodist Church. Mac is survived by his loving wife of over 68 years, Charlene Smitherman of Floydada; his son, Greg Smitherman, of Floydada; and his niece and nephew, Kelley and Bryn Smitherman of Fort Worth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rex Smitherman.
