Elna Gayle McAnally Jackson Schacht was born on March 1, 1942, to Russell and Elsie McAnally in Perryton, Texas. Russell was a Methodist preacher, so Gayle was raised in various West Texas communities.
Gayle graduated from Olton High School in 1960. She then attended West Texas State University and McMurray University.
Gayle met Keith Jackson in 1960, while her father was the pastor at FUMC Lockney. They quickly married and started a family and began their lifetime farming operation. Gayle was the driving force and greatly contributed to the success of Jackson Farms. She prided herself on being a farmer’s wife and was involved with many aspects of farming. Gayle and Keith have three sons, Dwight Keith Jackson Jr. (Jack), Wade Jackson, and Boyd Jackson. While raising her boys and helping with the farm, Gayle also wrote articles for numerous newspapers. For many years, Gayle worked for Delta and Pine Land in Aiken.
In the early 1980s, Gayle was awarded Lockney Woman of the Year. Gayle was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Lockney where she played the piano every Sunday. She was also present to open the doors at any event held at the church. Gayle was heavily involved in Walk to Emmaus and various other philanthropic organizations. As her boys married, Gayle always made it a priority to be a loving and supportive mother-in-law. She lost her first husband, Keith in 1996.
After losing Keith, she kept herself busy by being the best G-mom to her seven grandkids. She took them on trips and made sure they all saw Washington D.C. Gayle also remained heavily involved in the farming industry. In 2004, Gayle married John Paul Schacht. Together, they enjoyed avidly supporting Texas Tech Athletics, where they won the Kiss Cam competition twice! Paul and Gayle travelled frequently to numerous conventions. They also enjoyed taking cruises together, including Alaska and Hawaii. Gayle always had a warm meal on the table and shared her love for cooking and baking with everyone. Most remembered are her apricot fried pies, pralines, and cinnamon rolls. G-mom loved spending time with her family, playing games, reading and laughing. She will be remembered by her caring heart, giving spirit and sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Gerald McAnally.
Gayle is survived by her loving husband, Paul Schacht, who cared for her in the best way; sons Dwight Keith Jackson, Jr. and wife Haley, Wade Jackson and wife Terry, and Boyd Jackson and wife Shanna; brothers Dan McAnally and Devin McAnally; grandkids Evan and Frank Barat, Lezlie and Andrew O’Bryant, Stewart and Elena Jackson, Quinn and JP Chavarria, Davis Jackson, JW Jackson and Rachel and Crayton Fowler; greatgrandkids Lawrence, Alec and Rosie Barat, Beckett, Asher, Jennings, Landry and Leola O’Bryant, Henry Jackson, Kennedy Chavarria, Gwendolyn, Marlow and Eden Fowler.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Carillon Memory Care Unit and UMC Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Compassionate Care Pregnancy Center in Plainview or Lockney Methodist Church as Gayle devotedly supported both.
