Paul Leon Westbrook was born March 1, 1934, in Deport, Texas to James Adron Westbrook and Lelia Tidwell Westbrook.

He married Dartha (Dot) Westbrook on March 22, 1958, and their union was blessed by three sons, Steve, Larry, and Terry. Their 65year marriage is a testament to the bond made possible by patience, their love for each other and their faith in Christ. They spent many years living in both East and West Texas and were more recently living just outside Idalou, Texas.

Paul was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 during the Korean War. He served our country for two years and was medically discharged in 1956. In 1955, while he was in service at Fort Lewis in Washington State, his regiment was filmed for the motion picture “To Hell and Back” starring Audie Murphy.

His motto was always, “You can’t outgive God,” and he lived it every day. He loved to serve those around him in need and touched countless lives with his generous spirit. His life is a long legacy of service, from his years as a nursing home administrator to his years spent building six churches throughout Texas. He believed there was always work to be done. He was known for his dutiful nature that went right alongside with his persistence and diligence. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and a true jack-of-all-trades. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do or figure out how to do.

Blessed with the ability to retire early, Paul and Dartha spent many of their days traveling all over Texas by motor home. They were in several travel clubs over the years and loved playing games like Joker and 42 (dominoes). He loved watching the Rangers, and he loved his Dallas Cowboys.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Dartha; son Steve Westbrook, with his four children Jason, Scott and spouse, Mandie, Layce and Zach; son Larry Westbrook and spouse, Sherry Westbrook with their combined family of four daughters, Amy, Erin and spouse, Trevar, Daila, Kelly and spouse, Courtney; son Terry Westbrook with his three children Tyler, Tawny, Toban and spouse, Kaegan; and his great-grandchildren, McKalyn, Dacen, Cade, Emery, Brynlee, Miles, Tessa, Porter Jane, Kacen, and three on the way.
