Judy Chappell Lloyd, 1957–2023

Body

Judy Chappell Lloyd, 65, of Floydada, passed away on June 12, 2023.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Floydada Methodist Church.

The burial was held at the Floyd County Memorial Park following the funeral service. Arrangements were under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Judy was born December 2, 1957 in Lubbock, Texas, to Juanita and Ozell Chappell. She grew up in Floydada, where she married her high school sweetheart, Steve Lloyd, on June 5, 1976. They farmed and raised a family in Floydada. As a farm wife, she delivered meals, often for a dozen or more hungry people; parts were chased, some being retrieved from as far as 350 miles away.

As a mother, Judy never backed down from a challenge. From learning how to coach archery, to driving across the state for stock shows, nothing was too much for her to tackle. And she was always in the stands to cheer on kids and grandkids for sporting events and shows.

Throughout her entire life Judy had a servant’s heart. Helping anyone she could, no matter how she felt. She always put the needs of others above her own. Days when she should have been in the hospital with pancreatitis, she would instead be found delivering the mail if a sub wasn’t available, or preparing food so the guys in the field wouldn’t go hungry.

Along with the neverending duties of a farm wife, Judy worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service (USPS). Driving up to 100 miles of dirt (occasionally mud) roads, sliding her tires over rattlesnakes that made the mistake of crossing her path, and changing more than a few flat tires, she enjoyed her mail route for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Lloyd, of Floydada; her daughter, Stacey, and husband Brandon of Bushland and their children, Sydney and Levi; and her son, Shane, and wife Malin of Floydada and their children, Hannah, Marcus and Hazel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Light the Cross, the Floyd County Library, or the Methodist Church in Floydada.
