1942–2021
LOCKNEY—David Ray Jackson, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 5, 2021 in Lockney, Texas.
David was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma on July 9, 1942, then moved to Texas in 1945.
Most of his early school days were in Lockney until 1954, when the family moved to Morenci, Arizona. In 1958 there was a move back to Plainview, Texas where David graduated high school in 1960.
David answered his call from Jesus to be a preacher, servant and evangelist. He became an ordained minister from Arlington Baptist Seminary in Arlington, Texas, in 1967. He pastored churches at Burkburnett, Littlefield, Winnsboro and Oak Cliff in Texas and in Clayton, Oklahoma.
David was acclaimed as the Superman Preacher who ran Minnetonka Christian Camp with the help of his wife, Pam, for 30 years. He shared his love for Jesus with thousands of kids, camp counselors and parents.
David had a love for the outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, or jeeping in the mountains. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to make his family and friends laugh. He was a big kid that never had to grow up. His business card explains his ministry the best: Weddings Preformed, Revivals Preached, Uprisings Settled, Chickens Plucked, Funerals Conducted, Hay Hauled, Widows Comforted, and Love Offerings Accepted. Come rain, shine, snow, or sleet, I’ll be there as soon as I eat!
David is preceded in death by his father, David Jackson, and mother, Addie Mae (Cottrell) Edgmon; his grandparents, Joe and Bessie (Kyle) Jackson and Charlie and Lula Mae (Roady) Cottrell.
He is survived by a daughter, Aundrea (Jackson) Hull and husband, Mike, from Durant, Okla.; a son, David G. Jackson from Tuskahoma, Okla.; a daughter, Nancy (Jackson) Brown and husband, Chad, from McAlester, Okla.; and a brother, Donnie Jackson and wife, Judy, from Lockney, Texas. Grandchildren are Logan Hull, Kristen Brown, Katie (Brown) Etchison, Bret Brown, Dana Jackson, Shelton Jackson and Addy Jackson. Great-grandchildren are Quinn Hull and Lily Brown. There are many more nieces and nephews who loved Uncle David.
After a lengthy illness with cancer David made arrangements to donate his body to Texas Tech Medical School. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff at Lockney Health and Rehab Center.
