CANYON – FCHS senior Luke Holcombe won first place in the shot put at the Region 1-2A Track and Field meet held Friday, April 23 at the WTA&M Track and Field Complex in Canyon.
Holcombe has been battling a sprained ankle for the last two weeks but still battled through that to qualify for State in shot put with a throw of 54’01”.
On Saturday Holcombe competed in his second event – the discus. He finished third with a throw of 157’04”. Due to a sprained ankle, this throw wasn’t his best in the discus, but he received the call Sunday that he will go to State as the “Wildcard” in this event.
Luke competed at the 2019 UIL State Track & Field as a sophomore in the discus. However, during Holcombe’s junior year all sports were cancelled in March due to COVID-19.
Holcombe will be competing at the State Track and Field championship on Friday, May 7 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium, The University of Texas in Austin. The discus event is tentatively scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and the shot put is scheduled at 2 p.m.
We would like to wish Luke the best of luck at State this year!
