FCHS senior Ryder Glass won the Regional UIL in Extemporaneous Persuasive Speaking and will be advancing to the State UIL competition.

The Regional competition was held on April 16 at West Texas A&M University in Canyon.

Glass will be competing virtually for the State UIL contest, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 at Floydada Collegiate High School.

Glass has been on the UIL Extemporaneous team for four years. This event consists of drawing a topic on a current event and then looking through resources and writing a speech on that topic. He has thirty minutes to do that. He then speaks to a judge or a panel of judges, who look for good eye contact, factual information, good delivery speed and clarity.

FCHS teacher Dana Crossland said, “Ryder is outstanding at this and is a very good speaker. He also does some speaking through 4-H and FFA.”

Crossland added, “Ryder is a joy to work with, and it has been my honor and privilege to have been able to coach him and work with him in various organizations at FCHS. Even though this contest happens after graduation, I know that Ryder will still be doing his best.  He is a true Whirlwind.”
