In light of scheduling conflicts arising from changes to the primary administration testing calendar, the Commissioner of Education has determined, pursuant to 19 TAC §101.5001(d), that baseball, softball and track and field post season contests, scheduled to take place on May 5-8, need not be canceled or rescheduled, as long as the following requirements are met:
• The competing schools have mutually agreed to the competition date. A school cannot be forced to schedule a competition on a test date by coin flip;
• The competition must be scheduled to begin after the end of the school day;
• Students shall not miss school time to travel to the competition, until after all tests for that day are scheduled to end for students participating in the competition.
Schools who have already made playoff arrangements may now consider rescheduling those by mutual agreement in light of this new information.
