FLOYDADA – Santa Claus picked the perfect night to make a quick stop at Nuthouse Designs arriving in style on the back of Floydada’s firetruck on Thursday, Dec.10. Mrs. Claus accompanied Santa carrying a basket full of candy canes for the children.
Families lined up outside patiently waiting their turn to visit with the Jolly Old Elf. The children took turns telling Santa what they had on their wish list, and Mrs. Claus handed each child a candy cane and wished them merry Christmas.
The community also turned out to show support for one of their own, four-year-old, Hunter Wells. Hunter is the son of Robert and Kayla Wells. The four-year-old was recently diagnosed with AML or acute myeloid leukemia and has been hospitalized since early November. Kayla Wells and their daughter Ella were at the fundraiser Thursday night sharing lots of hugs. “We are so humbled by the benevolence of people in our lives. We have been met by so much love and generosity,” said Wells. “I can’t say thank you enough to everyone in our community.”
The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were on hand to serve the BBQ pulled-pork sandwich meals. Twelve pork butts were cooked by Bryan and Kalli Martin, Marc and Janapher Williams, Landon Lackey and Tate and Jennifer Greer. The meat was donated by Your Web Pro. Bottled water was donated by Kinetico in Lubbock. “The sandwiches were sold out in about two hours,” said Kalli Martin.
Monetary donations were made by Little Red Barn, Floydada Chamber of Commerce, Texas Donuts, Ray Ray’s Café, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Karen Houchin Law Office, First Baptist Church of Floydada and many, many individuals.
“The generosity of our community, support and love was overwhelming. Thank you so much to all the businesses and individuals that donated and to everyone who came out to support the Wells family,” said Martin.
If you were not able to make it Thursday night and would still like to contribute, there is a love fund for Hunter Wells at Happy State Bank. Donations may be made at any branch location in Floydada, Lockney or Plainview.
