FLOYDADA—Floydada Cooperative Gin in Floydada ginned the first bale of cotton in Floyd County on Thursday, Oct. 1, at approximately 9:29 p.m. The cotton was grown by Jon Jones and produced on the Lucius Farm.
The dryland cotton was stripped Tuesday, Sept. 29. Fiber Max 2398 was the cotton variety.
Results: 39 percent turnout and averaged 316 lbs. per acre. The first bale weighed 380 lbs.
The Lubbock USDA Classing Office has officially graded this fiber with an average Loan Price of $.5095, resulting with the Color Grade: 21, Staple: 33, Leaf Count: 1, Micronaire: 4.1.
“The Floydada Chamber of Commerce supports the agricultural businesses in Floydada by awarding a $100 check to the producer for the first bale ginned in Floydada,” said Kortney DeBock.
