LUBBOCK – Maykala Sky Hernandez, a 2019 Lockney High School graduate and a second-year Texas Tech University student, was recently inducted into The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the nation’s leading certified honor society for high-achieving first and second-year college students that have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
Hernandez also was named to the Texas Tech University’s President’s Honor List for Spring 2020 with a 4.0 GPA.
Majoring in physics and astronomy, Hernandez is currently classified as a sophomore but will be a junior at the end of this fall semester.
Hernandez is the daughter of Esmeralda and Alberto Soto-gonzalez of Lockney.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honors organization that invites less than 10 percent of all eligible students nationwide to join the ranks of its diverse membership each year.
“NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement, it is a distinction of honor,” said Scott Mobley, NSCS Executive Director. “Our scholars are some of the best of the best who have shown an unwavering commitment to academic excellence early in their collegiate journey.
“We welcome Maykala Hernandez to our community of like-minded, high-achieving nationwide scholars,” Mobley said.
