FLOYDADA – Danny Burdick was born and raised in Lubbock. He is the son of Laurie Burdick and has one younger brother, David.
He graduated from Monterey High school in 2001.
“For years I was traveling down the wrong path in a fast way,” Burdick said. “I know I was headed nowhere fast. By that I mean I was hanging out with the rough crowd and doing things that could have gotten me in a lot of trouble. I am not proud of that life.”
During that time in his life, Burdick was employed as the kitchen manager at Caprock Café. Burdick credits God’s intervention for his life changing paths. It was around 2019, at a kickboxing match, when he met and talked to a Lieutenant Walker who was employed by Lubbock ISD.
After chatting with Walker, Burdick knew he had to make a change in his life. It was during that year that he enrolled as a full-time student at South Plains Association of Government, also known as SPAG.
For months Burdick poured his heart out in his law enforcement studies. Burdick did a total turn around in his life. He graduated from SPAG with a law enforcement diploma.
Although he was not sure which department he was interested in, he knew at some point in his life he would like to be involved in the canine unit or undercover.
Burdick was hired by the Floydada Police Department in March.
“When I first met the crew here, I knew this is where I needed to start. This crew took me in like I was family. I have learned so much from each one of these officers,” Burdick said.
“All towns have their own set of problems, but if I could tell the kids here in Floydada one thing, I’d tell him to keep a good, clear head on their shoulders and not to give in to the drugs on the streets. I would also tell them that no matter where you are in your life, you can improve. I am living proof of that. You can be anything great that you want to be.”
In his spare time Burdick enjoys kick boxing and all kinds of music.
