LUBBOCK- The Junior League of Lubbock has made the difficult decision to cancel the 41st annual Holiday Happening event.
This decision was made out of an abundance of caution after researching and discussing the proper protocols regarding public health and wellness regarding the COVID-19 pandemic with City of Lubbock officials, Junior League of Lubbock leadership and the Holiday Happening Committee. The Junior League of Lubbock is saddened to not usher in the holiday season with the annual Holiday Happening event, but the health and safety of merchant partners, attendees and volunteers is the top priority.
“This was a difficult decision for our organization to make,” said Tina Stone, president, Junior League of Lubbock, “We brainstormed a variety of alternative options to continue the event in 2020, but with thousands of people, from our 150-plus merchant partners to shoppers and our league volunteers, there was not a clear effective plan for an event of this size to safely implement current guidelines. We know this will be disappointing for so many people but based on many discussions and recommendations we feel it is the best decision with the information available at this time.”
Holiday Happening 2020 scheduled for November 18 – 22 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, is the League’s annual five-day shopping event, traditionally offers a festive start to the holiday season while benefiting the League’s signature projects (Kids in the Kitchen, Food2Kids, and SPARK), and contributing to community assistance grants, scholarships and other community needs.
The longest-running fundraiser of the League and one of the biggest holiday shopping markets in Texas, Holiday Happening typically features special events including: Sneak Peak, Friday Night Out, Ladies’ Day and Breakfast with Santa. Last year’s event raised more than $405,000 with 20,000+ attendees. We look forward to welcoming our merchants and guests in 2021.
“We are grateful to our merchants, sponsors and partners; many of whom support the Junior League of Lubbock and Holiday Happening each year. We look forward to being back together again, soon.” April Walker, Chair, Holiday Happening Committee.
