Special for The Hesperian-Beacon—
FLOYDADA – For the fifth year, Floydada ISD’s A.B. Duncan Elementary, high school and junior high will offer free breakfast and lunch during the 2020-2021 school year.
Funds for the meals are using funds received through the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
The district first applied to participate in the free breakfast and lunch program for the school year 2015-2016 and administrators have applied and been approved each year since then.
Schools qualifying to operate CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-priced and paid student meals.
Schools partaking in the CEP program provide every student a healthy meal. To be classified as a healthy lunch, a meal must include a proportional serving of dairy, protein, whole grain, fruit, and vegetables.
The free meals reduce the burden for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.
