FLOYDADA—In a statement released on the Floydada Ex-Student’s Association Facebook page by committee secretary Kelli Lyons Reddy, the committee announced the cancellation of the 2020 FHS homecoming gathering due to COVID-19 concerns.
However, FHS still plans to continue with part of the homecoming celebration, that happens every four years.
“They will proceed with the Friday night half-time festivities in presentation of the homecoming court and the dedication of the Charles Tyer stadium,” Reddy said in the statement.
Although Reddy said a new stadium and school is an exciting new beginning for the community, it is best to showcase them when it is safe for everyone.
FHS alumni are “welcomed to visit the new stadium and school at their own convenience; however, no formal activities are planned at this time” Reddy said.
The FHS homecoming is set for Sept. 4 when the Whirlwinds take on the Lockney Longhorns for a rivalry match up for the county trophy title.
To keep up to date regarding alumni activities, fans are asked to visit the Floydada Ex-Student’s Associate website at floydadawhirlwinds.org or follow them on Facebook.
