FLOYDADA—Anthony Garza’s dream job came to him while he sat looking at his reflection in a barbershop mirror.
“I was actually getting a haircut, sitting in a barbershop, when I thought it was a pretty cool environment,” Garza said. “The barbers were able to make their own schedules and dress how they wanted. You hear different conversations in a barbershop, a little bit of everything”
Garza, the son of Nora and Albert Garza, graduated from Lubbock Hair Academy in 2013 and returned to Floydada to open his own business, The Barbershop.”
Garza works to create a comfortable, safe and engaging atmosphere in his shop.
“I want people to feel like they can just drop off their kids and get a haircut,” Garza said. “I enjoy having conversations with different people and hearing everyone’s story. I like to talk a lot, so I think I picked the perfect job for it as well” he said, laughing.
Garza said this career is not something he only enjoys but one he hopes he can do for a very long time.
“I’m trying to be here as long as Rudy was” he said, adding Rudy is a barber Garza has looked up to in his industry.
Looking ahead, Garza said he would like to add at least two other barbers and operate in a bigger shop, which will create a future that will not only help him expand his network of clientele but also provide more jobs for the people in the community.
As a small business owner, the pandemic was a setback, but Garza found a solution which has enabled him to operate during the difficult times.
“I am locking the door and only allowing one customer in at a time to keep it safe for everybody” he said.
For now, Garza encourages his customers to wear face masks during their appointment, adding he prioritizes the safety of his customers.
Garza said he works hard to provide excellence service in a welcoming atmosphere. To schedule an appointment with Anthony Garza, call 806-983-5310.
