Tom Emert, age 95, of Floydada, passed away February 12, 2020.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at Trinity Assembly of God in Floydada.
Interment will follow at Floyd County Memorial Park.
Open visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
Tom Noble Emert was born June 6, 1924 to A.T. and Audry Emert, northwest of Dougherty, the 5th of 7 sons.
Tom began working the family farm at age 5, left school in his sophomore year, and worked several jobs over the next few years, including being a cook in King’s Canyon National Park in California.
In July of 1942, he married Lois Gorley in Floydada and they moved to Borger where he worked helping to build a rubber plant. On March 11, 1943, he joined the Army to do his patriotic duty. In November of 1943, Tom shipped out for war, landing in England then traveling to France where at Christmastime he was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge. Thankfully, before he could be sent to Japan, peace was declared and Tom was discharged December 12, 1945.
After returning from the service, Tom worked in many different roles over his lifetime. He worked at a rubber plant, owned and operated a farm, worked as a mechanic, served as a police officer and a prison guard, and he even served as a guard at NASA in Clear Lake City in Texas.
In 1963, Tom began working for Deer Park ISD and was there until he retired in 1981. After returning to Dougherty, he worked worked at Covington’s station and then Producers until 2003.
Tom married Edwina Hollums in April of 1997. Together they made many wonderful memories including trips to Arkansas, Tennessee and many locations across to Texas to see the sites and visit with family and friends.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, A.T. and Audry; his wives, Lois and Edwina; and his son, Tommie Douglas who died in Vietnam in December of 1964; step-grandson, Jay Hollums; and six brothers, Lon, Ernest, Owen, Oliver, El Roy, and Dale.
Tom is survived by his three children, Darlene Hollis, stepson, Randy Hollums and wife, Teressa, and stepdaughter, Harriett Purvis; his grandchildren, Randall Hollis and wife, Chedette, John Hollis and wife, Lynn, DG Hollums and wife, Tiffany, Christi and husband, Kevin; 10 great-grandchildren, Randall, Jr. and his wife, Piola, Jennifer, Alex and Kaleb, Miski, Jessie and Natalie, Gracie, Hayden and Brady; and three great-great-grandchildren, Maddison, Gideon, and Maddison.
