FLOYD COUNTY— The Floyd County Junior Stock Show Scholarship Winners were announced before the Stock Show Sale last Saturday night. This year’s scholarship recipients are Ruth Ramirez, Senior FHS, Andrez Suarez, Senior FHS, Sweepstake Winner Jose Lira, Senior FHS and Kaylee McInvale, Senior LHS.
Each of these high school seniors will receive $1,000 from the Floyd County Stock Show Association. The Sweepstake Winner will receive an additional $500 scholarship.
This program’s purpose is to reward the years of hard work and dedication by the High School Senior Exhibitors who have showed at the county stock show three of their four years. Each student turns in an essay along with an application which is then judged by a third party.
Since 2002, the scholarship program has rewarded stock show participants from Floydada and Lockney high schools who plan to continue their education at a college, university, or trade school.
Through 2020, 114 graduating seniors have received scholarships totaling $87,500 with funding provided through the support of local and area businesses and individuals.
In 2019 the new backdrop banner was donated in memory of Herb Dudley.
