William Hugh (W.H.) Hallmark or “Dub” was born in Hamlin, Texas on July 6, 1936. He grew up in Hamlin and graduated there in 1955.
At that time, the draft was active, so he put his name at the top of the list and was drafted after graduation. Dub was sworn into the Army on June 15, 1955. He served in guided missiles for two years. Dub was proud to serve his country.
He and Peggy were high school sweethearts and were married in 1958. They have been married 61+ years.
After graduating from the University of North Texas in 1962, Dub taught elementary school in Amarillo for one year then taught and coached for six years in Big Spring.
When the position came open in Lockney to teach and coach, his wife said, “Where in the world is Lockney?”. Dub and Peggy arrived in Lockney, June 1, 1968 with a one year old in tow. Thinking this would be a stepping-stone to bigger and better things, they intended to stay 2 or 3 years. They have now lived in Lockney 51 years.
