TURKEY– The 2020 entertainment year at the Gem eater in downtown Turkey will kick o on Saturday, Jan. 4 with a selected mix of crowd-favorite performers.
The Jengals, a three-piece group from Amarillo, will open the set with a lively selection of country, folk and gospel music. Barbara Striley sings and plays the fiddle while husband Danny accompanies with voice and guitar. e group is completed with Rosita Nall on the upright bass.
Next on the show will be Bunk Skelton who hails from Claude. Pastor of the Arena of Life cowboy church in Clarendon, Skelton plays guitar and sings cowboy tunes, country and gospel. He has videos of his performances uploaded to YouTube where many of his songs can be enjoyed, including Skelton’s popular ‘Little Joe the Wrangler.’
Skelton will be accompanied by Glen Spiller on fiddle and the Turkey Gems.
The Gems feature Cecil White on lead guitar, Joel Brownlee on rhythm guitar, Rex Johnson and Sharon Brownlee on guitar, Chris Johnson on drums and Gerald Monson on keyboard.
e group is hoping to have a special guest singer, Trish Harris from Amarillo, who is a Gem favorite, join them for this performance.
ere will also be the talent showcase portion of the show where folks in the audience can come up and sing, play or recite poetry.
The activity will start with a meal of Mexican Pile On, dessert and a drink at 6:00 p.m. e cost of the meal is $8. e show starts at 7:00 p.m. and is free. A hat is passed during the show to help pay the bills and improve the theater. There are also drawings during the show for prizes, with a $25 drawing at the end of the show.
The Turkey Jamboree is always held on the first Saturday of every month. Everyone is invited to come begin the New Year on a musical note and savor the songs and performances at the Jamboree!
