Augustina Ruiz Martinez, 85, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family Thursday, August 15, 2019. She is now in the company of her loved ones who preceded her. She remained a vital presence in the lives of her living children.
Tina was born August 28, 1933 in Austwell, Texas. She married Felipe G. Martinez on June 19, 1950. They were married for 39 years ending with his passing on June 26, 1989.
As the matriarch of her extended family, Tina’s home became the place for family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Antonio Ruiz and Socorro (Diaz) and her son, Baltazar Martinez.
She raised several of her grandchildren as her own as well as children of others. She would always end a goodbye with, “Si Dios Quiere.”
Mom enjoyed gardening and her yard served as proof. She was a self-taught seamstress and sewed many quilts throughout her life for her children and grandchildren. Mom lived a simple, nonjudgmental life. She was the most precious and beautiful spirit you could ever be blessed to know. The profound impact she had on our lives is part of who we all are as people. Her legacy lives on in four generations. We have been blessed.
She is survived by her children, Maria D.C. Martinez of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Olivia Mercado and husband, Samuel of Ruidoso, New Mexico; Marta Muniz of Floydada; Juan Pablo and wife, Maria of Floydada; Irene Stalter and husband, Jim of Amarillo; Rose Quiroz and husband, Richard of Austin and Tina Martinez-Johnston of Amarillo; grandchildren, Frank Keough, Victoria Martinez, Kristi Martinez, Angelena Sara Martinez, Michael Mercado, Resa Mercado, Adam Muniz, Erika Barrios, Dominic Barrientos, Jonah Trevino, Cassie Parker, Rita Martinez, Jennifer Stalter-Lee, Austin Stalter, Alicia Langford, Emilee Quiroz, Daniel Quiroz, Ciara Quiroz, and Jamie Nguyen; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family received friends at 6 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary which followed at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2019 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada with Celebrant Father Reynaldo Cruz. Committal followed at the Floydada Cemetery.
